ABOUT THE PROJECT CYPRESS

CIRCULAR PRODUCTION FOR ELECTRICAL VEHICLES

  • The Interreg project CYPRESS aims to position the Meuse-Rhine region as a leader in the sustainable, circular production of emerging climate-neutral mobility solutions. As the automotive industry transitions towards electric vehicle technologies, the project focuses on establishing a highly circular and resource-efficient supply chain that spans the region’s cross-border ecosystem.
  • The goal is to reduce the ecological footprint and promote long-term sustainability in the automotive sector by fostering collaboration among SMEs and larger enterprises within the value chain, from material supply and recycling to manufacturing and testing.
  • CYPRESS will create a collaborative platform for over 150 companies and regional stakeholders, driving innovation in circular materials, processes, and business models. The project will co-develop three pilot production lines for key automotive components, including a battery module for refurbishment, a hydrogen tank made with recycled carbon fiber, and a low-carbon gearbox housing for electric vehicles.
  • Additionally, the project will aim to establish at least one physical pilot production line through cross-border cooperation, leveraging regional private investments through a grant scheme. As part of the transition, the project will also focus on preparing a (re-)skilled workforce for circular automotive production, developing assessment studies, technological toolkits, and training programs for technicians, engineers, and managers.
  • The project’s outcomes will not only advance the green transformation of the automotive industry but also ensure the long-term competitiveness and innovation of the region’s automotive sector, strengthening the Meuse-Rhine region’s position as an international hub for automotive manufacturing innovation.
